Clinical meetings
Each week we set aside an hour to discuss relevant topics. This is NOT the only discussion time as I can ALWAYS be consulted immediately and I have an open door policy to my surgery and anyone can come in at anytime.
There is lots to cover in your VGDP year and we tailor the subjects to meet immediate needs first and foremost and then cover a selection of topics not normally covered at university. However I am prepared to cover ANY topic given notice.
Topics I routinely cover are
How to use the computer
NHS regulations dull but vital
Management of staff
Health and safety
Mortgages pensions insurances
How to talk to patients about money
Teeth that won't go numb
Endodontics
Complex extractions and how to make them simple
Minor oral surgery
Anxious patients
Dealing with complaints (and how to avoid them!)
Managing time and patient flow
Becoming an associate.... and so on
In addition I do a full induction with the VGDP before they start so that day one is as comfortable as possible and you can feel confident from the start and this is often done when the practice is closed so that there are no time constraints.
